Wilma Rollins Thompson

Mrs. Wilma Thompson, of Social Circle, Georgia, formerly of Lithonia, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 6, 1940, to Welton and Annie Lou Rollins, the younger of their two daughters. Wilma graduated from University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in education and later continued her studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

A faithful woman of prayer, she was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lithonia where she joyfully dedicated her musical gifts in the choir, led Vacation Bible School for many years and participated in the Young at Heart Ministry. She was also active in the Red Hat Society and generously volunteered her time at The Yellow Brick House, where she enjoyed encouraging the residents through church services and her special holiday treats. Wilma and her beloved husband, Bob, shared a love for music and entertainment and together founded the Newborn Opry, which they proudly operated for ten years.

She delighted in collecting butterflies and nativity scenes, both reflecting her appreciation for beauty and faith.  Shopping brought Wilma much pleasure; however, nothing brought her greater happiness than her family. She especially cherished the precious time spent with her grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Ken Johnson; and husband of 42 years, Robert "Bob" Wilson Thompson. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Meredith & Kevin Gallagher, Jordan & Meredith Thompson, Melanie and Duane Keil; adored grandchildren, Gracie, Emma, Rylee, Luke, Oakleigh, Liam, Fisher and Maggie; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all who were blessed to know and love her.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, May 20, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Lindsay and Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow on Thursday at 11 o'clock in the family plot at Ebenezer UMC Cemetery, Swainsboro.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home, from 1-2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Lithonia, PO Box 378, Lithonia, GA 30058.
