It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Willis "Ray" Knight, age 82, of Covington, GA on December 3, 2016, from heart failure following a stroke that he suffered in January, 2016. He was born on June 2, 1934, in Brunswick, Georgia. Ray served in the U.S. Army in 1953-54 with an honorable discharge to care for his ailing parents. After receiving his BBA from Augusta College, he went on to work for Georgia Pacific, where he retired after 29 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Simons Knight; daughters, Amy Knight McDaniel, Paula Elaine Knight, Barbara Bales Miller; granddaughters, Ashleigh Knight, Rhyannon Knight; great-grandson, Joseph Knight; nieces, Vicki Knight Boyd, and Carole Knight Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Knight; his son, Michael Kenneth Knight; twin granddaughters, Clancy and Parker Knight; a brother, Robert Knight; and niece, Linda Knight. He will always be remembered for his love of reading, history, country music, UGA Football, golf, and English peas. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a soft spoken man with much wisdom, wit, and love for life and his family. A Memorial Service will be held 2:30 on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, 4228 Mill Street NE, Covington, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 671 N. Cherokee Road, Social Circle, GA 30025.
