William Floyd "Bill" Simmons, 89, of Stone Mountain, died August 14, 2015. A native of DeKalb County, Bill lived across the street from the house in which he was born. He graduated from Stone Mountain High School in 1943 and soon afterwards joined the U. S. Army Air Corps, becoming one of the 18 million Americans who helped win WWII. Bill was a long-time member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and later attended Bethel Baptist Church. He was faithful and dedicated member of Lithonia Lodge #84, F&AM. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Jett Simmons; son, William F. Simmons, Jr. of Stone Mountain; and brother, Ray Simmons of Jonesboro. The funeral service will be held at the graveside, 11 am, Wednesday, August 19, Bethel Community Cemetery, 1147 Panola Rd, Stone Mountain GA 30088. Rev. Preston Moore and Rev. Bob Howard will officiate and members of the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard will provide military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service.
