Obituary

William O. Epps (Bill), age 88, of John's Creek, formerly of Lithonia, died Tuesday, February 11, 2020. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received his Bachelor's, Master's and Specialist Degree in Education. Bill's teaching career spanned four decades, most of which was at Lithonia High School. After his retirement from Lithonia High School, he continued teaching at DeKalb Community College and Rutledge Academy. Bill was a 50 year member and Past Master of Lithonia Masonic Lodge #84 F&AM. Upon moving into the Lithonia area, he became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia. He was a deacon, head of the counting committee, and taught Sunday School there. Bill's Christian witness was very important to him, as was evident in the faithful way he visited the nursing homes, hospitals, shut-ins, and helped older relatives by cutting their grass. Letter writing was also a tool he used to reach others with a Christian perspective, doing so until he was no longer physically able. His sense of humor was important to him and he enjoyed making people laugh. In his later years Bill enjoyed planning trips with his children and grandchildren, one in particular being a delightful trip to Arizona! He was a devoted UGA fan, and loved keeping his own personal statistics on the Atlanta Braves while watching their games. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Norma Swofford Epps; parents, Itice Vera Edwards Epps and Owen Newton Epps; brother Thomas Newton Epps; sister-in-law, Joanne Prince Epps; and son-in-law, David Spencer Weatherly. Surviving are his daughters, Tami Conner (Matt) of Richmond Hill, and Lauri Overcash (Bruce), of Chesnee, SC; grandchildren, Daniel Conner (Amanda), Rachel Conley (Elisabeth), Joshua Conner, Andrew Conner, Hannah Conner, Bruce Weatherly, and Zachary Weatherly; great-granddaughter, London Conley; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, February 14, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Henry Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, February 15, at Spring Hill Memorial Gardens, Chesnee, South Carolina, with Dr. Gary Grogan officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Agape Hospice Care, 1395 S. Marietta Pkwy, Bld. 750 Ste 730, Marietta, Georgia 30067.
