William Joseph West, age 81, of Social Circle, formerly of Conyers, died December 28, 2019. He was a graduate of Baptist University of Atlanta, retired from Atlanta Gas Light after 38 years of service, was a bus driver for the Rockdale County School System and later became a driver trainer. Joe enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper, "tinkering", motorcycle riding, camping, eating sweets from Martha's kitchen, visiting Goodwill stores and yard sales, playing with the grandchildren, and as long as he was able, read his Bible every day. He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. West, Sr. and Elizabeth Collins West; son, Jeffery Scott Cantrell; and sister, Charlene West. Surviving are his loving wife, Martha S. West; sons, Richard L. West of Lawrenceville, Jeff C. West and his wife, Karen, of Lawrenceville; daughters, Karen W. English and her husband, Jim, of Milner, Faith W. Tondee and her husband, Jeremy, of Covington, Leanne W. Polk and her husband, Rodney, of Plano, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his special care giver and niece, Shannon Stewart and her husband, Andy; brothers, James P. West, Jr. and his wife, Kathryn, of McDonough, Michael R. West and his wife, Sue, of Hiawassee; sister Ruth W. Floyd of Douglasville; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Tuesday, December 31, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Tondee, Rev. James P. West, Jr., and Rev. Steven Chambers officiating. Interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
