Virgil Hanks, 96, of Social Circle, died October 31, 2017. Loving husband, father, and grandfather, Virgil was a member of Social Circle First United Methodist Church since 1984. A World War II veteran, Virgil served as a corporal in the United States Army Air Corps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Norvell; parents, Louis and Grace Hanks; daughter, Joyce Sherrill; sister, Flora Sargent. Surviving are brother, Louis Hanks, of Winfield, AL; grandson, Jeffrey Sherrill and his wife, Effie Vantsi, of Athens; son-in-law, Frank Sherrill, of Social Circle. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Saturday, November 11 at Social Circle United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kathy Morris officiating. A private burial of the urn will be held at Georgia National Cemetery. Henry Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
