IN MEMORIAM THADDAEUS HUSON MCDONALD
MAY 13, 1945 - DECEMBER 16, 2017
With both sadness and gratitude for his presence in our lives, we mourn the death of Thad McDonald, the youngest son of Alonzo and Lois McDonald. On the morning of Saturday, December 16th, Thad passed away from pneumonia at the hospital near his home in Deltona, Florida. His impressive longevity of 72 years six months, so rare for someone with Down Syndrome, was a source of thanksgiving and a tribute to his caretakers and his family's love.
Thad was a special person to his family, to his caretakers at the Duvall Home, and to many others. It is no secret that because Thad had Down Syndrome, working with him could be a challenge. But for those who took the time to get to know him, working with Thad could be a true learning experience.
Thad was deeply religious like his father and spent many hours copying the Bible. He always wanted to help people he felt in need. Thad also was enamored with Elvis Presley - his songs and his movements. Thad was at his happiest wearing his Elvis Presley white suit and red sash. Thad also enjoyed listening to music and coloring pictures. In his younger days he was athletic and was an excellent swimmer and dancer.
He will be missed because of his warm and friendly attitude, a sense of humor, and a deep love for people. Thad's parents, who died many years ago, would be amazed and pleased at his achievements and resilience!
A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, January 10, in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home, with Rev. Riley McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Lithonia City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Thad H. McDonald to: The Duvall Homes, P. O. Box 220036, Glenwood, FL 32722.
