Suzanne Basnaw, age 81, of Homer, Georgia, died June 2, 2025. She was born in Lithonia, GA, on July 15, 1943, to the now late Winston and Laverne Rogers and graduated from Lithonia High School. Suzanne will be remembered as a cultured, intelligent, funny, and full-of-life individual. She was a Christian and served for many years as a leader of Girls in Action (GAs).
Her early career was spent with Rich's Department Store and then in management with Lane Bryant. She transitioned to the banking profession for the remainder of her working years and retired from Pinnacle Bank. Suzanne had a deep appreciation for the arts- poetry, literature, music, and plays. A lover of travel, she had taken countless trips to places all around the world and especially enjoyed visiting The Biltmore Estate. Despite her worldly experiences, she found joy in the simplest things in life, like yardwork, tending to her flowers and cooking. Her almond delight pie was a favorite treat among her family and friends. Suzanne was family oriented and enjoyed spending time with them most of all.
In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Basnaw; sisters, Lily Anderson and Mary Corley; nephews, Rusty Anderson and Roger Wilson; niece, Becky Jordan. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Carolyn Rogers; nieces and nephews, Mike & Gail Wilson, Robert Anderson, Suzanne McGraw, Jeffrey Smith, Scott Corley; several great-nieces and great-nephews, many of whom called her "Aunt Hallelujah".
A funeral service for Suzanne will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, June 7, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home, 6833 Church Street, Lithonia, with Pastor Philip Lehman and Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Lithonia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service, from 12-1 PM.
