Shirley Ann Davis Johnson, age 80 of Conyers, passed from this life on December 11, 2021.
She was the daughter of the late Willie and Ouida Fillingim Davis and was born on May 19, 1941, in Barbour County, Alabama. Shirley met the love of her life, Thomas, when he visited the family of his college roommate who happened to be her next-door neighbor. They married December 22, 1961, at Eufaula Church of Christ in Eufaula, Alabama. They lived in Eufaula, where she worked at the local bank while he worked and finished school.
The young family relocated to Conyers in 1965 and became founding members of the church of Christ in Conyers. "Miss Shirley," as she was known, was a beloved member of her congregation, where she served as a Bible class teacher and secretary for 35 years. Her smiles and hugs were coveted each week by church members. She was especially supportive of the youth group and the Lads to Leaders program. She loved children and delighted in being able to provide in-home child care for a few special children before they were old enough to go to school. She had a great passion for reading and collected many cookbooks over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Davis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Thomas; her children: Jeff(Stephanie) Johnson of Conyers, Michael(Sandi) Johnson of St John's Florida, and Stephanie (Brian) Jenkins of Covington; grandchildren: Lauren(Daniel) Parrish, Caleb (Kaitlyn) Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Blake Jenkins and Simon Jenkins; great grandchildren: Ella, Peyton, Aria and Harrison Parrish; her brother and sister in law Roy and Brenda Johnson; her wonderful aunt Hilda Davis and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Conyers Church of Christ with the remains placed in state at 1 o'clock. Ministers Roy Johnson, Mike Johnson, Jeff Johnson, and Brian Jenkins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 - 6pm, Wednesday, December 15, at Henry Funeral Home. The remains will be buried in Hollins, Alabama at a later date.
