Sherry Thompson Barron, McDonough resident, passed away June 29, 2026, at the age of 74. She will be remembered as a loving sister and aunt.
For over thirty years, Sherry dedicated her professional life to Georgia Power, where she served as an executive secretary. Her work ethic resulted in numerous awards for performance excellence, and her commitment to her colleagues left a lasting impact even beyond her retirement in 2017.
Outside of her career, Sherry was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a gifted artist, finding fulfillment and joy in painting and expressing her creativity through gardening and cross-stitch. Cooking was another creative passion, and her famous cheese ring was a favorite among family and friends. She embraced her place as an aunt wholeheartedly, and her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews remember her doting nature, generosity, and unconditional love.
Sherry was the eldest daughter of J.P. and Jeannette Thompson, and a caring sister to Allen Thompson, all of whom preceded her in death. Her surviving family includes her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Jeffrey Durden; nieces and nephews, Shelley Morriss, Amanda Barcus, Blake Rogers, and Brooke Durden; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service to remember and celebrate Sherry's life will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, July 5, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery, Stone Mountain. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home, from 1-2 PM.
