Robert Alexander "Sandy" Wells, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died March 11, 2026, at the age of 83. A native of Lithonia, Georgia, he was born on October 2, 1942, to Seth Alexander and Catherine Hazel Fowler Wells.
A gifted athlete, Sandy, or Bob, as he was known to some, attended Georgia Southern University on a full baseball scholarship. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and later developed a passion for golf, proudly playing to a two handicap. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the golf course teaching his grandchildren the game he loved.
He honorably served in the United States Air Force before beginning a 30+ year career as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. Despite his many athletic and professional accomplishments, Sandy will be remembered most for his vibrant, outgoing personality and for the love and devotion he showed to his family.
He was a longtime, faithful member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia. In later years, he played an active role on the Independent Council and led chapel at The Retreat of Conyers, where he was well-respected by fellow residents.
Together, Sandy and his wife, Bobbie, who survives him, shared 60 wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family. His memory lives on through his beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn & Don Osborne, Shannon & Paul Griffeth; cherished grandchildren, Nicole Carlisle (Triston), David Osborne, Wesley Singleton (Nicole), Caleb Griffeth; great-grandchildren, Reese Singleton, Evelyn Singleton, Alexander James "A.J." Singleton; brother and sister-in-law, Brent & Annette Wells; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Keith Alexander Wells; and sister, Sherry Bradford.
A memorial gathering in celebration of Sandy's remarkable life will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, March 22, at The Retreat at Conyers, located at 1502 Renaissance Drive NE, Conyers, GA 30012. Interment at Georgia National Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Sandy's life through a contribution to Folds of Honor, www.foldsofhonor.org.
