Robert Edward Lanier, Sr., age 81, of Acworth, died Saturday, August 14, 2021. He was born in Stone Mountain to Roy and Clara Mae Lanier and grew up in the Glen Haven area of DeKalb County. Robert was a rock mason for many years, worked for Lithonia Lighting for 18 years and for Evans Tool and Dye for 10 years. At an early age his father taught Robert and his brothers how to lay stone and together they built their house. You would always find Robert wearing a hat and driving his Ford truck and he would say that "If it didn't say Ford, it wasn't any good." He enjoyed fishing and bird watching. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, of 58 years, Carolyn Hansford Lanier; parents, Clara Mae Conner Lanier and Roy Sampson Lanier; son, Joe Lanier; daughter, Wanda Gail Lanier; grandson, Robert Lanier; sisters, Irene Mosley and Venice Merck; brother, Bill Lanier. Surviving are his sons, Robert Lanier, Jr. of Conyers, Gary Lanier and Mickey of Conyers, Lee Roy Lanier and his wife, Kimberly, of Conyers, and Brian Lanier and his wife, Denise, of Covington; daughter, Charmaine Greer and her husband, George, of Acworth; brothers, Charles Lanier of McDonough, Sam Lanier and his wife, Brenda, of Decatur; sister, Martha Toney of Snellville; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 1 o'clock, Wednesday, August 18, at Dawn Memorial Park. with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 12 noon at Henry Funeral Home.
