Obituary

Richard Charles Ziegler, age 91, of Conyers, formerly of West Babylon, NY, died January 15, 2020. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to William and Mabel Ziegler, and lived most of his life in New York. Richard served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He worked for many years for the New York City Department of Sanitation and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in West Babylon, NY for 52 years. Richard enjoyed watching television (especially war movies); lottery tickets, and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel Ziegler; brother, William Ziegler; and sister, Dolores Boyle. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Alma Ziegler; sons, Richard Ziegler and his wife, Joell Ratterman, of Conyers, GA and John Joseph Ziegler and his wife, Merina, of Conyers, GA; daughter, Deborah Ann DeVito of West Islip, NY; grandchildren Daniel P. DeVito, Jr. and his wife, Gina, Thomas M. DeVito and his wife, Bridget, Craig A. DeVito and his wife, Kristin, Samantha Ziegler, Antonio Ziegler, Kimberly Ziegler, and Cory Ziegler; great grandchildren, Riley, Liam, Joshua, Tyler, Gianna, Luke, and Leo. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, January 18, in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home, with Deacon Fred Johns serving as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to service time at the funeral home. The interment will take place 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday, January 22, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
