Service: 11 o'clock, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 Place: Lithonia Chapel of Henry Funeral Home Visitation: One hour prior to the service Place: Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia Interment: 3 o'clock, Westview Cemetery, Atlanta Mr. Richard Harold Teague, age 87, of Norcross, GA, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather, died February 20, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 69, years, Edith W. Teague; daughters, Judy Elaine Benefield of Daytona Beach, FL, Lynda Marie Collier of Atlanta, Donna Lynne Holland of Norcross, and Terry Suzanne Greer of Hillsboro, GA. His parents were Alfred Moses Teague of Ellijay and Minnie Broome Teague of Fairmont, GA. He is survived by not only four daughters, but seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Mr. Teague was born in Aaragon, GA, April 20, 1928, and after a few years the family moved to Waleska, GA, where he started to elementary school on Rhinehardt College Campus starting in the first grade. A few short years later they moved to Canton, GA and then on to Atlanta, GA. There he started to Faith Elementary School, but was reverted back to kindergarten with the explanation he was not old enough to be in the first grade. The family moved to Ellenwood, GA and worked at the Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA. Apparently, the trip was too long so they moved back to Atlanta. While in Ellenwood Mr. Teague attended a three room schoolhouse that still stands. There were two grades in each room with one teacher. Mr. Teague finished Faith Elementary School and then went to Murphy Jr. High and then finished at Commercial High in Atlanta in 1947 where he was a four letter freshman and made the all star team his junior year during the NGIC basketball tournament. His first experience in organized baseball was with the American Legion Post 72; the team was made up of the entire Tech High baseball team. Unfortunately the rules did not permit him to play during the tournament because he did not attend Tech High. He later played Semi-Pro baseball with Fulton Bag Cotton Mill, the Grant Park Aces, and with Industrial Trades Inst. His first full time job was with Westinghouse Elec. Supply, then Ford Motor CO, as Fleet Rep. traveling Georgia and Alabama, then promoted to Field Manager traveling north Georgia. Mr. Teague has been a Ford Dealer in Winder, GA and a Dodge Dealer in Midland, TX. In 1965 he accepted a position with Chrysler Corp. as interim operator and has run their dealerships in Spring Valley, NY, Dallas, Texas, Peoria, IL, Providence, RI, Panama City, and FL, Pomono, CA. He later accepted a position with Chrysler Corp., Dodge Div, as a field representative in the middle GA area; Macon and Columbus being the two major cities. He was later transferred to the Jacksonville, FL District and later promoted to Car Distributor for the Florida and south Georgia area. After running the dealerships for Chrysler, he accepted the position as Director of Admissions for the Patricia Stevens School in Atlanta. After three years in the position he then went on to The Atlanta College of Medical and Dental Associates. He was offered a positon with the DeVry Institute but it required traveling and he turned it down. When a similar position came open in the Atlanta area that required no traveling, he accepted it. His duties called upon him to call on high schools in the Atlanta area. Mr. Teague became the first employee in that position to retire. After retirement, he was invited to attend all awards dinners held in the Atlanta area. After retirement, Mr. Teague became a volunteer for the 1994 Olympics held in Atlanta. He was stationed at the Marta station in underground Atlanta; his duties were to meet and greet the visitors from all over the world explaining the venues and other activities of the Olympics. Of the many perks was to attend the opening and closing ceremonies. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, in the Lithonia Chapel of Henry Funeral Home, with Dr. Jim Martin and Rev. Leon Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at 3 o'clock at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
