Rachel Wiggins Tanner, of Loganville, Georgia, died March 7, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born November 7, 1936, in Lithonia, to the now late Harold and Lillie Wiggins. Shortly after her 1954 graduation from Lithonia High School, she married her sweetheart, Levaughn "Buddy" Tanner. They were married for 36 years. Professionally, Mrs. Tanner went to work for Life of Georgia straight out of high school and was secretary to the vice president until 1970. For several years following, she was involved with the PTA at Rock Chapel Elementary and worked in the lunchroom there, a job she held with great pride. She later worked as an administrative assistant for the Occupant Safety Education Program at the University of Georgia, retiring in 1999. She was a woman of many hobbies, including vegetable gardening, canning, cooking, and listening to Gospel music. Her love for the Gospel was not only reflected in her choice of music, but also in the roles she played at Union Grove Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for decades. There she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and initiated their Vacation Bible School program. Spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest delight. Mrs. Tanner was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca & Paul Wilson. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Tanner, Marshall & Trisha Tanner all of Monroe; grandchildren, Charlotte Tanner, Jacob (Kayla) Tanner, Delilah Tanner, Marianna Tanner, Grace Tanner, Cecily Tanner, Mary Tanner, Peyton Goodman; great-grandchildren, Noah, Dylan, James, Addison; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Chupp and Rev. Steve King officiating and interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 17, from 5-7 PM at Henry Funeral Home, 6833 Church Street, Lithonia, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday, March 18, from 12-1 PM.
