Paula Jean Kenning, age 70, of Covington, Georgia, passed away on July 4, 2025. She was born on December 10, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Paula's life journey took her across the globe, including many years spent living in Australia, before she settled in Covington, where she became a devoted member of Canaan Baptist Church and was affectionately known as "Miss Paula" by her church family. She trusted Christ as her Savior on July 4, 1973, while living in Brisbane, Australia. Remarkably, she entered eternity exactly 52 years later to the day of her salvation. Paula was a dedicated employee and served as a customer representative for JoAnne Coates State Farm Agency. Beyond her career, she lived a vibrant life and possessed a funny charm that endeared her to all. Her hobbies included crochet, especially making animals for the children she knew at church, and netball in her younger years. She volunteered much of her time to scoring baseball games and even scored during the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin Matthews, Jr., and Marjorie Keith Matthews. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles "Chuck" and Rita Matthews; sisters, Patricia Matthews and Christine Matthews; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Canaan Baptist Church, 5581 Salem Road, Covington, GA 30016.
