Olen Reynold Worthey, age 86, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away October 19, 2026, just four days before his 87th birthday. He was born on October 23, 1939, to the late Glen and Naner Lou Worthey of Stone Mountain, the third of their four children.
A graduate of Stone Mountain High School, Reynold went on to own and operate Worthey Plumbing Co. in Lithonia for many years. He was also a builder, and his skill with his hands remained a defining part of his life. A talented craftsman and woodworker, he could build or create just about anything he set his mind to. He was a member of Lithonia Masonic Lodge #84 F. & A.M. and the Shriners and attended Mountain View and Turner Hill Baptist Churches.
After marrying Brenda Cleland, the couple lived on her family’s homeplace in Lithonia, the present-day site of Stonecrest Mall, until 1974, when they moved to their farm in McDonough. In the early 2000s, they began building their mountain home in the Booger Holler Community of North Georgia. That home became a 20-year ongoing project and a true labor of love, reflecting their shared dedication to detail. During that time, they formed lasting friendships in the Blairsville area that they deeply valued.
Reynold was known as a perfectionist, a practical joker, and a hardworking man. An avid hot-rodder, he also found great joy in bluegrass music. He played the banjo and had a lovely tenor singing voice.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his second set of parents, Hayden and Irene Cleland; his sister, Betty Crowe; and his grandson, Drew Worthey. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Cleland Worthey, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Angela Worthey; daughter and son-in-law, Gala and Herb Tray; granddaughter, Elyse Harris, and her husband, Josh Harris; great-grandchildren, Lucas Worthey, Marceline Worthey, Juliette Harris, and Emmeline Harris; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Lamar Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Lamar and Brenda Worthy; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be held 12 o'clock, Saturday, October 24, at Turner Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Wayne Hanna will officiate and Jeff Stephens, Scott Cleland, Josh Harris, Lee Wade, Simon Sentinella and Barry Crowe will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia, on Saturday prior to the service, from 10-11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or a charity of one's choice.
