Michael G. "Mike" McCrary, age 69, son to the late Henry Grady McCrary and Cornelia Chapman McCrary, died August 9, 2016 at his home in Conyers. He lived in Conyers and South DeKalb County the majority of his life. Mike was a member of the Future Farmers of America, an officer of the Woodman of the World, and a member of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Possey. He had a fond affection of soil and water conservation and farming the land. He was a gentleman farmer for many years alongside Archie Chapman, his uncle. Mike and Archie attended many farm shows. They also visited Forthe Scotland, the home of their ancestry. Mike enjoyed the annual Chapman Reunion in Lithonia and attended every year. Family and friends were very important to him. Mike was a graduate of Rockdale County High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tifton, Georgia. He helped host an annual Easter Egg Hunt on his farm, following in his uncle's footsteps. Mike loved to hunt and fish. His happiest days were spent outdoors. He loved hosting a dove shoot every year on the family farm. He was a devoted father to his son Jason and has shared his love for the land with him. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Grady McCrary and Cornelia Chapman McCrary, and his brother, Henry Chapman McCrary. Surviving are his son, Jason McCrary of Conyers; sister, Susan Henesy and her husband, Charles, of Flowery Branch; 4 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3 o'clock, Saturday, August 13, at the First Baptist Church of Lithonia with remains placed in state at 2 o'clock with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Hillandale Memorial Park at 4:30. Family will receive friends Thursday and Friday evening from 4 until 7 at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
