Obituary

Mary Lynn Thomas, age 83, of Lithonia, died December 31, 2024. She was born one of five girls to Byron and Colie Mitchell on June 27, 1941, in Lithonia, Georgia, where she grew up. As a child she attended Rock Chapel Elementary and later graduated from Lithonia High School. Professionally, she worked in law firms in Decatur and Conyers for many years. Among her many involvements in the ​community​ was her contribution to ​maintaining the historic Rock Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery in Lithonia. Mrs. Thomas was a woman of quiet wisdom, kindness, and patience who ​embodied the Proverbs 31 woman with​ her unwavering faith in God and devotion to her family. A gifted musician, she used her talents to serve the Lord at various churches, including Glen Haven Baptist Church where she traveled with the choir, Conyers Church of God, and Family Life Assembly of God where she played the piano. Additionally, she enjoyed painting. Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Margaret Amanda "Mok", Myra Sue "Sue", Ethel Mildred "Ming", Dorothy Jean "Dot"; son, Christopher Bennett; and step-son, Patrick Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Oscar Thomas; daughter, Beth Bennett; sons, Paul Bennett, Nathan Thomas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mrs. Thomas will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2025, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home, 6833 Church Street, Lithonia. Her family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home, from 11-11:30 AM.
