Mary Ruth Hester

Mary Ruth Chewning Hester, age 80, formerly of Lithonia, Georgia, passed away after a short illness on October 4, 2026, in Mobile, Alabama.

Mrs. Mary was born on September 9, 1946, to the late Jewel Glover and Margie Carter Chewning of Lithonia and was a 1964 graduate of Lithonia High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Douglas “Doug” M. Hester, on September 11, 1965, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Doug Hester; parents; and son, Keith D. Hester.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Brian M. & Trenda O. Hester of Mobile, AL; granddaughter & grandson-in-law, Joseph & Brittani Guzman of Lithonia, GA; grandson, Brent Jameson “Sonny” Hester of Mobile, AL;  and great-grandsons, Brent Michael Cole Griffin of Mobile, AL, and Jaxon James Thomas Guzman of Lithonia, GA.

A graveside service will be held 1 o'clock, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Hillandale Memorial Park, Lithonia. The family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday one hour prior to service time, from Noon to 1 p.m.
