Destiny Makayla Crooms, age 20, of Stockbridge, died Thursday, August 15, 2019. Born in Conyers, Georgia, she attended Heritage High School where she enjoyed singing in the choir for several years and graduated in 2018. Kayla enjoyed swimming; 'binge watching' Netflix series; hanging out with friends; looking forward to planning and spending time with her Mom; going to the beach; and spending time with her grandmother 'MeMe'. She had a special interest in animals and they in turn were instantly drawn to her. When she would go to her father's house, she liked to visit the sheep, they would run to her and were not afraid like they were of other people. She also had the same affect on dogs, who were known to be unfriendly. They would come to her, roll on the ground with her and let her pet them. Kayla had many plans and dreams for her life, which included being a marine biologist; becoming rich and taking care of her mother; and because she had such a beautiful voice, she wanted to be a famous movie star like Hannah Montana. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Crooms, and cousin, Dustin Crooms. Surviving are her mother, Sandy Ford and Kayla's step-father, Mike, of Porterdale; father, Wayne Crooms and his fiance, Kimberly Raabe of Covington; brothers, Justin James and Ethan Decosse, both of Covington; sisters, Lacey McGuoirk of Stockbridge and Kolie Tillman of Covington; maternal grandparents, Elaine and her husband, 'Papa Sid' of Stockbridge; paternal grandparents, Kathy Decosse and her husband, Jim, of Covington, Thomas Crooms and his wife, Myra, of Covington; Great-Great-Grandmother, Joyce Sills of Lithonia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, August 20, from 5 until 7 o'clock at Henry Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made toward Kayla's final expenses.
