Lucille Morrison Lucas, was born February 25, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the third born child (siblings, Roland (Boo), Isabel and Samuel Jr. (Sammy) and last surviving child to Samuel and Alberta Morrison. At the age of 13, Lucille and her family moved to Washington DC. At 19, she married Robert Lucas and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy Walter S. Lucas who was born in August of 1943. She lived in Baltimore for some time with her in-laws and would share stories about scrubbing the marble stoop with Comet during the scorching days of summer. She spent some time in New York City where she met her second husband "Jack" Glenn. In the early 1950's she moved back to Washington DC where she gave birth to Denise Glenn (Garnett) in November 1955. Although her children were 12 years apart she raised them to look out for each other, leading by example. As long as Lucille had a roof you had a place to rest your head. She assisted her sister Isabel with taking care of her grandchildren who were Lucille's great nephews (Daryl, Robert and Tyrone (Beanie) Turner) and niece (Antoinette Turner).
After the birth of Denise's first child Jamel Malik Glenn, Lucille would follow her daughter by moving to Boston, MA from Bronx, NY to help raise her grandson in better surroundings.
Lucille had many names (Ma, Mom, Lupe, Red, Aunt Lucille, etc.) and would answer to any of them however once her grandson Jamel dubbed her "Nana", this would be the name she wore proudly as Mom.
After suffering a stroke in 1994, Lucille moved to Stone Mountain, GA, later that year to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Always determined to "Get these legs together," Nana had a strong heart, strong will and never lost sight of her worth. Her infectious laugh will forever be memorable. Always knew how to make you smile, "What YOU looking at!". . . That was Lucille.
On August 5, 2015, Lucille left this world to go where she will no longer feel pain. Where she will stand up, turn to say; "I told you I was going to get up to walk." She would always make sure that she lent an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on and let you know, she was still there. "Spry", one would say, kind and witty. WE tend to lean on honest and understanding, loving and pure. The tears that are shed, and feelings of sorrow should be replaced with smiles and laughter. We ALL know we are getting a tongue lashing right now. No sad face, no hung heads and NEVER is it really good-bye. Until we see you again, go enjoy your dance with Jack.
Lucille Morrison Lucas is survived by her two children, Walter S. Lucas, of Boston, MA and Denise Garnett of Stone Mountain, GA; son-in-law, Anthony Garnett; grandchildren, Jamel Malik Glenn, Zakiyah Jacole Morgan, Dante' M. Morgan (grandson-in-law), Malik S.
