Obituary

Leola Mealor Hicks Boozer, age 95 of Lithonia, died December 24, 2021. She was born in Jasper, Georgia to Thomas Henry and Rebecca Champion Mealor. Leola lived there until she married Gordon Hicks and they moved to Lithonia, where she spent the rest of her life. She was a member of East Lithonia Baptist Church in her early years. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and wonderful homemaker, she cared not only for her own children but also her brothers and sisters after her parents died, and also took in other children who were without a home. Leola enjoyed gardening, working puzzles, embroidering, preparing pear preserves, and the best pecan pies you ever tasted. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Hicks and second husband, Leon Boozer; children, Larry Thomas Hicks, Loy Eugene Hicks, Brenda Gayle Ghee, Roy Lee Hicks, and Charles David Hicks; grandchildren, Anthony Hicks and Margaret Hicks; brothers, Charles Newt Mealor and J.C. Connor; and sister, Louellen Mealor Davis. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Ann Parker and her husband, Richard, of Loganville; sons, Robert Lester Hicks of Lawrenceville and Gordon Randolph Hicks of Lithonia; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Tuesday, December 28 in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Sheppard officiating. The interment will follow at Hilllandale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 - 1 o'clock prior to the service at the funeral home.
