Larry A. Wood, a lifelong resident of Lithonia, GA, died Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the age of 80. Known lovingly as "LWood" to many, he graduated from Lithonia High School in 1961, served in the Georgia National Guard, and worked for and was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters - Local 72 for 39 years.
Larry spent much of his free time in his workshop - clad in suspenders and covered in sawdust. He was an avid woodworker and was known to share his talent in the form of gifts for family, friends, and even strangers. He could make everything from candy bowls to locomotives, piggy banks, and beyond.
He loved to tell a good story almost as much as visiting Tybee Island with family, drag racing, and bluegrass music. Larry always kept a pocketful of $2 bills, eager to delight the recipient with a simple act of generosity. Most of all, Larry is remembered for his love of his family. Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Beauford Wood, whom he loved dearly, as well as the person he was most proud of - his son, Andy Wood, and his wife Kathy, of Canton; his pride and joy - his grandson, Payton Wood of Cartersville; brother, Ralph Wood of Dallas; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irene Wood; and siblings: Ed, Elizabeth, Donald, Jimmy, Helen, and Richard.
Larry's family will receive friends Sunday, May 7, from 2 pm until 4 pm, at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia, with remarks and a prayer by Dr. Jim Martin at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Toys for Tots during the Christmas season to honor Larry's spirit of giving.
As Larry always said, "Okay I'll call ya!"
