A 1956 graduate of Lithonia High School, he owned and operated Gilbert's Garage for many years. He was a member of Lithonia Lodge #84 F. & A.M. Lamar was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia where he faithfully served as a Deacon. He served his country honorably as a Sargent in the United States Army for 6 years. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Anne Pearson Gilbert; daughter, Amanda Mann and her husband, Mark, of Lithonia; son, Stephen Gilbert and his wife, Shannon, of Loganville; grandchildren, Christopher and Rebecca Mann; sister, Betty Potts of Conyers; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, October 29, at the First Baptist Church of Lithonia with remains placed in state at 10:30. Rev. Bob Lindsay and Dr. Jim Martin will officiate. Interment will follow at the Lithonia City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, PO Box 378, Lithonia, GA 30058.
