Homer Lamar Biffle, age 77, of Stockbridge, passed away August 14, 2026. He was born in Decatur on June 23, 1949, to the late Homer and Betty Biffle, who instilled in their family a strong foundation in the Baptist faith. Lamar attended Redan Elementary School and graduated from Lithonia High School in 1969, where he lettered in gymnastics during his junior year. Soon after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served as a Military Policeman stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. As a Specialist 4, he received the USARAL Certification of Achievement for exemplary performance of his duties before being honorably discharged in 1971.
Lamar worked as a Journeyman Mechanic at Owens Illinois, a glass manufacturing plant in Hapeville, from July 1968 until his retirement in November 2003. His first marriage to Sherry Loden Biffle brought his three children, and in September 1985, he married Carol A. Rolph, whom he met while doing laundry at their apartment complex. They bonded through their shared love of music- playing the guitar and singing. Lamar even took up playing the clarinet so he could spend more time with Carol and practiced diligently with the help of his row mates in the Peachtree Wind Ensemble.
He was a poet, a jokester, and tried to make other people feel better even when he didn’t. An inspiration to many, Lamar refused to become totally dependent on a wheelchair, instead relying on canes and walking and hiking poles.
He enjoyed his home and took pride in gardening, growing muscadines, and, in earlier years, tending a vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, and fruit trees. Feeding birds was another passion of his, and his hummingbirds provided him with more than one funny story. He had a special affection for his cats, especially Yellow Jacket, Milo, Sweet Pea and Midnight.
Lamar was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carol A. Biffle; children, Richard Allen Biffle (Melissa), Lisa C. Green, Mark E. Biffle (Heather); grandchildren, Jordan Price (Josh), Cassandra Biffle (Jake Verniel), Chandler Biffle, Noah Biffle, Ireland Biffle, Payton Green, Riley Green, Zoey Green; great-granddaughters, Daisy and Felicity Price; brother, Mike Biffle (Rebecca); sister, Lynn Klein (Denny); nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Lamar’s life will be held 1 o’clock, Monday, August 24, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home, from 12-1 PM. Flowers will be accepted, or contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Spastic Paraplegia Foundation.
