Kay Byrd

Kay Elizabeth Byrd, age 65, of Newborn, Ga, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020. She was born in Lithonia to Sarah Lee Burroughs Carter and Joseph West Carter. Kay retired from Newcomb Springs of Atlanta, after 45 years of service. She was an excellent mechanic, enjoyed building things, wood-working, (including birdhouses and even her back porch) and going to casinos. Most of all, Kay loved spending time with her family and bass fishing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Joe Carter; brothers, Kenny "Bull" Carter, and Joey "Pops" Carter. Surviving are her life partner of 28 years, Dona King, of Newborn; son, Thomas Byrd of Newborn; daughters, Teresa Lowry and her husband, John, of Newborn; Machell Byrd of Forsyth; brother, Chris Carter and his wife, Donna, of Loganville; sister, LouAnn Holcombe of Newborn; grandchildren, Stephen Barnett, Lacee Reynolds, Anthony Ricks, Sierra Phillips, Dylan Byrd, Danny Criswell, Kinze Johnson, Sharon Edwards, and Peyton Edwards; great-grandchildren, Meleah, Riley, Paisely, Rosie, Brandon, Hagan, and Ellie; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, February 22, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10 - 2, at the funeral home prior to the service.
