Kathy Mealor Shumake, age 60, a life-long resident of Lithonia, died May 31, 2015, following a long struggle with illness. Like her father Raymond Leftwich, Kathy was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her granddaughter; Janna Haywood, describes her as a strong, resilient woman who was open, honest and always knew how to help. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was a genuinely good-hearted person and a great mom, grandmother, sister and friend. Her laugh was infectious and her big smile. She was a voracious reader and loved the occasional naughty joke. Surviving are her son; Troy Mealor and his wife Elisha, daughter; Stacey Mealor Clifford and her husband, Brian Elliott Clifford, sister; Brenda Hall, brothers; William, Jeff and Raymond Leftwich, Grandaughters; Janna, Ashlyn and Ansley, who were her pride and joy, as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday June 4, in the Lithonia chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
