John William "Billy" Hammonds, age 82, of Stockbridge, passed away January 20, 2020. Born to Roy and Marie Hammonds in Stockbridge, where he was a lifelong resident, Billy was a 1955 graduate of Conyers High School, received a BS in Bible from Emmanuel Baptist College and worked in sales for General Electric for many years. He attended Harvest Tabernacle while he was able. Billy served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, visiting Florida, cooking, watching sports, teaching Sunday School for many years, and especially spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Carolyn South and Patricia Piper-Mashburn. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Nettie Mae Hammonds; sons, John A. Hammonds and his wife, Lea, of Stockbridge, and William Andrew "Andy" Hammonds of Stockbridge; daughters, Lori Works and her husband, Jody, of McDonough, and Lila Jane Hammonds of Stockbridge; brothers, Wayne Hammonds and his wife, Norma, of Conyers, and Jim Hammonds and his wife, Laura, of Stockbridge; sisters, Joyce Swann of Stockbridge, and Sandra Wilson and her husband, Sammy, of Conyers; grandchildren, Mandy Lineberger, Ashley Baudry, Jordan Hammonds, Lindsay Gettmann, and Daniel Anderson; great-grandchildren, Hagan, Jackson, Quentin, Abe, and Levi; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, January 25, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Halsted officiating. The interment will follow at Highview Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7, Friday evening at the funeral home.
