John Hubert Abbott, age 92, of Lithonia, died Friday, July 17, 2015. Born in Lithonia, August 24, 1922 to Grady and Lucille Houseworth Abbott, he proudly served his country in The US Navy and participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Preceded in death by his wife of over 69 years, Earlene Young Abbott and sons, John T. and Paul Abbott. Surviving are his granddaughters, Keely Woodall and her husband Woody, Polly Thatcher; great grandchildren, Pete Woodall, Kendall Woodall, Luke Thatcher and Lainey Thatcher; brother, Tom Abbott, sisters; Joy Murphy, Anita Mitchell, Alice Frix, Ethel Lister and Sequel Hadaway; daughter-in-laws, Cindy Abbott and Gay Abbott, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3 o'clock Thursday July 23, at First Baptist Church of Lithonia with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will be private. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, P.O.
