JoAnn Moreland Abbott, age 89, a long-time resident of Lithonia / DeKalb County, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday the 22nd of January at her home. Born in 1930 in Woodbury, Georgia, a small town in Meriweather County, JoAnn attended West Georgia College before moving to Atlanta where she met Marron Abbott at a boarding house and married him in 1952. Marron and JoAnn settled in Decatur, Georgia and lived there for over 20 years, raising a family of four children. She worked at the Coca-Cola headquarters in Atlanta for 6 years. JoAnn loved sewing and embroidery and being creative with her hands. She suffered with rheumatoid arthritis later in life and while this can be a crippling disease, she did not complain. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marron William Abbott. Surviving are her four children: Judy Doi and her husband, David, of Johns Creek; Susan Davis and her husband, Duck, of Conyers, Jenny Gordon and her husband, Dan, of Buford, Jeff Abbott and his wife, Christy, of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Andrea Duncan and her husband, Chris, Jessica Weaver and her husband, Derek, Lauren Dean and her husband, Daniel, Ryan Doi, Ronnie Gordon and Sydney Gordon, Austin Abbott and Alex Abbott; 6 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Monday, January 27th, at the First Baptist Church of Lithonia with Dr. Jim Martin and Rev. Bob Lindsay officiating. Interment will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Cemetery. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
