Joan Rawlins Nowell, age 92, of Perry, GA, formerly of Conyers, died June 20, 2023. Born in Tucker to Alpha and Carter Rawlins, Sr., she was a graduate of Clarkston High School. Joan was a good cook who was known for her potato salad and pound cake, was taught by the best, "her mother." Joan was a member of Clarkston Baptist Church and Gresham Park Baptist Church. She loved to sing and was a member of Decatur Civic Chorus. Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Sidney Glenn Nowell, Jr.; her parents; sister, Mattie Sue Hayes; brothers, Carter Rawlins, Jr., Nick Rawlins and Jack Rawlins. Surviving are her son, Sid Nowell III and his wife, Denise, of Perry, GA; granddaughters, Holly Munroe and her husband, Jorge, of Orlando, Florida and Heather Wetzel and her husband, Travis, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and great grandchildren, Jordan, Jaime, Liam and Lincoln. A graveside service will be held 12 noon, Monday, June 26th, at Melwood Cemetery, 5170 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Stone Mountain, GA 30083 with Pastor Michael Stovall officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Cross Pointe Baptist Church 645 Perry Parkway, Perry, GA 31069.
