Lt. Jesse James "J. J." Thompson, Atlanta Fire Department (retired), age 91, of Conyers, died Veterans Day, November 11, 2014. He retired in 1977 from the Atlanta Fire Department after 28 years of service. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Thompson served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, a pal to "Hank" the parrot that lived with him for 45 years and was the proud owner and operator of J. J.'s Produce in Lithonia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Stella Thompson and son, Ricky Thompson and is survived by his daughters, Deborah Thompson, Brenda Crawford and Candy Deen; sons, Tommy Thompson, Michael Thompson and Randy Thompson; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, November 14, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Atlanta Fire Department Chaplain Thomas E. Houston officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Redan Cemetery.
