Jennie Jones, age 82, of Mansfield, passed away May 16, 2026. Born Jennie Rebecca New on July 6, 1943, she was both the firstborn and the last surviving of Charlie and Alla Mae New’s five children. She will be remembered for her good-hearted nature, strong will, and hardworking spirit.
Jennie was a Christian and found comfort in the music of her faith. She had an appreciation for life’s simple yet meaningful moments and could often be found sitting on the front porch with her friend and porch partner, Judy, watching birds and squirrels while discussing the latest developments in their favorite soap operas. An avid shopper, she had a particular fondness for shoes and jewelry and took great pleasure in dressing up and presenting herself with style. Other delights in her life were word searches and good food, one of her favorite treats being honey buns.
Her greatest joy came from the people she loved. Jennie adored her dogs and treasured the time spent with her family, especially her great-grandchildren, many of whom affectionately called her “Other MawMaw.” She created lasting memories through her warmth and unwavering love.
In addition to her parents and her four siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Jones. Survivors include her children, Sherrie Wallace, Steve Black (Carol), Danny Black, Mike Black (Becky); 13 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A graveside service will be held 12 o'clock, Noon, Saturday, May 23, at Turner Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Freddy Spry officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10-11:30 at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia. Flowers are accepted, or to honor her love for animals, contributions may be made in her memory to ASPCA, https://www.aspca.org.
