Obituary

Jay Thomas Ott, age 65, passed away at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on August 30, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Ruth Mitchell Ott and Jobe Thomas Ott on August 21, 1958. He is survived by his wife, Karen Sledge Ott and four children - Brandon, Rachel Burton (Jack), Dillon, Megan Robinson (Cory) and daughter-in-law Carla Ott. Also, eight grandchildren- William Kelley, Caroline and Caitlyn Ott, Gavin and Roxy Kelley, Ethan Burton, Luke and Lena Robinson. He is also survived by his mother and his sister Catherine O. Watts. Jay graduated from Lee High School in Montgomery and attended Troy and Auburn University. Jay finished his degree at National Louis University in Georgia. He lived in Montgomery until 1989 when he and the family moved to Snellville, Georgia. Jay served in the Alabama National Guard, worked for The Alliance for Employee Growth and Development for many years and worked in his dad's law office. It was his "retirement" job with the City of Snellville that he enjoyed so and touched many lives. Jay loved his family, Auburn football, and traveling. In his youth he played the drums (and adulthood), rode motorcycles, and played baseball. He so enjoyed his jet ski, riding it all summer if he had the chance. Every year Jay enjoyed planning his and Karen's annual fall trips to the mountains to see the fall foliage. Jay enjoyed history, geography, and kept up with current events in the world. He could have been a professor! His love for music was apparent, classic rock and roll was his favorite. Jay will be greatly missed by his family, nieces and nephews, extended family in Alabama, and so many friends, old and new. He was PawPaw to his grandchildren, and they had a very special place in his heart. Above all else, Jay was such a caring loving soul. He loved people and loved making them feel special and loved. We will love and miss you always. Until we meet again. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, September 23 from 1pm - 5pm at Wildwood at Meadowgate Clubhouse, 320 Wild Barley Lane, Loganville, GA 30052. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jay's memory to Cancer Research or Wounded Warrior Project.
