James M. Hammonds, age 83, of Rutledge, died February 10, 2017. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1951 - 1955, while stationed in Austria. After returning from Austria, he began his 43 year career with Kraft Foods. James loved working in his yards, gardening, fishing and hunting. He was a devoted member of Centennial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 40 years. James was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Irene Hammonds; daughter, Connie Tucker; parents, Mercer and Marie Hammonds; sisters, Virginia Bernhard and Margaret Moore. Surviving are his daughter, Patsy Jean Hammonds of Rutledge; son-in-law, John "Buddy" Tucker of Conyers; sister, Sara Ann Driskell and her husband, Jerry, of Hampton; brothers, Donald Lamar Hammonds and his wife, Linda, of Eatonton, and Elton Lee Hammonds and his wife, Maria, of Birmingham, AL; grandsons, John M. "Trey" Tucker III and his wife, Candace, of Statesboro, and James Andrew "Andy" Tucker and his wife, Jamie, of Conyers; great grandchildren, Lola Tucker and Madison Tucker. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Monday, February 13, 2017 at Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge with Rev. Wilburn Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Hillandale Memorial Park in Lithonia. The family will receive friends 2 - 7 Sunday at Henry Funeral Home, Social Circle.
