Obituary

James Charles, "Jimbo" Conaway, age 65, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2021, at his residence after an extended illness, surrounded by his family. Jimbo was born in Atlanta on November 28, 1955, to the late O.V. & Dorothy Lee Cantrell Conaway. He was a longtime resident of Decatur but moved to Conyers with his wife, Sherry, in 1988. He and Sherry later welcomed their only daughter, Melissa, in 1991. Jimbo enjoyed employment as a typesetter and worked his way up to the head of the printing department at Strydex Corporation. A position he enjoyed until his illness made it too difficult to continue. Jimbo enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, hiking, and road tripping to Helen with Sherry and Melissa. He loved his hunting dogs, John Wayne movies, The 3 Stooges, Andy Griffith, sweet tea, and catfish. He was a SCI-FI nerd with a soft spot for Star Trek, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and Marvel's Captain America. Jimbo was also a die hard fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, The Braves, and The Falcons. He always had a baseball cap on his head and a smile on his face, and his fishing buddies will forever remember his phrase "eye and a wiggle" each time they hooked a fish too small to keep. Prior to his illness, Jimbo was an active member of Tanner's Baptist Church and was the head of the children's ministry program for 10 years. He was a child of God who held fast to his faith throughout the entirety of his battle with cancer. Jimbo was always ready to have a conversation about Jesus and was always ready to share God's love with others. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ, and was a true fisher of men. Jimbo is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherry Conaway; his daughter, Melissa (Jonathan) Segrest of Monticello and grandson, Brantley Segrest; sister, Kim Conaway, of Dacula; brother, Tim Conaway, of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jimbo's life will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, April 10, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Preston Loggins officiating. Family will receive friends 1-2pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Due to COVID restrictions, seating in the chapel will be reserved for family members only; however, the memorial service will be live streamed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help with medical bills and final expenses to either "Jimbo's Fund" c/o Sherry Conaway account 1000280459867 @ any Suntrust Bank Branch location or through Zelle to [email protected].
