Mr. Henry G. Barnard, age 83, of Decatur, died Monday, May 21, 2012. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., he was a civil engineer with Southern Railroad and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1986. Beloved father and grandfather, he enjoyed travel and was the type of person who never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Francis "Nancy" St. John Barnard. Surviving are his daughter & son-in-law, Victoria & Joe Adaway of Alpine, AL; son & daughter-in-law, Bill & Lucille Barnard of Lawrenceville; grandchildren: Jody (Jon) Smith; Phoebe Adaway; Sheley (Brandon) White; Brandon, Nicholas & Tyler Barnard; great grandchildren: Blake, Dylan, Joseph, Natalie & Anna Grace; sister, Elizabeth Crowder of San Diego, CA; brother, Bill (Kaye) Barnard of Greensboro, NC; nieces & nephews. Henry also had many longtime friends he dearly loved. His family would like to express their appreciation for the outpouring of love and friendship. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Wednesday, May 23 in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillandale Memorial Park.
