Obituary

Helen L. Smith-Tyler, age 70, of Lithonia, Georgia, died on August 26, 2023. Helen was a thoughtful, vivacious, and endearing woman whose life was marked by unyielding, unconditional love and selflessness. Her radiant spirit was contagious, and to know Helen was to love her. She was a shining example of benevolence and service. Helen had a fulfilling career as a Communications Technician with AT&T, where she passionately served until her retirement. Her professional achievements, however, were only a portion of what was to become her vibrant life. Helen's proudest roles were as mother and grandmother. Her love for her family was her driving force, and she always put others before herself. The selfless part of Helen was evidenced in her commitment to serving others. She served as a community servant, especially with the Girls Scouts for over 40 years; earning recognitions for her volunteerism and the accomplishments of the many young women who were members of her troop. She was a devoted member of the Pastor's Aid and Mission auxiliaries with Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis L. Tyler, Sr.; parents, L.C. and Tommie L. Smith; sister, Darlene Maulsby; brothers, L.C. Smith, Jr. and Harry L. Smith. Survivors include her children, Tina Tyler, Louis Tyler, Jr., Natia (Harper) Tyler; sisters, Linda Bourn, Tammy Smith; brother, Silas Ray Smith; grandchildren, Zola Rae Tyler, Byron Smith, III, Callie Tyler, Cairo Tyler; and an abundance of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, GA with Bishop Miles E. Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock. Arrangements by Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
