On March 1, 1927, George Pierce Owens, Jr., the first son of eight children was born to George Pierce and Lena Chafin Owens. On March 23, 2015, George went to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by is wife, Virginia Phillips Owens and their two children, Michael and Claire. He is survived by his brother, Douglas Owens, one granddaughter, and four great grandchildren. George served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and worked at Western Electric, and retired from Lucent Technology. He was a dedicated member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church. George was a kind and generous man who was loved and will be missed by many. An inurnment service will be held 3 o'clock, Thursday, March 26, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2194 W. Hightower Trail, Conyers, GA 30012, with Tim Owens officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
