Edwin Arther Barkley, age 89, of Conyers, died April 7, 2022. He was born in Collinsville, Alabama to William and Nellie Barkley. After serving his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, he returned and finished high school. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather, who loved the Lord, reading his Bible and was a member of Newton Baptist Church. Edwin enjoyed hunting deer, squirrels and rabbits. He taught children and especially his grandchildren how to hunt. He loved to garden, raise chickens and was a bee keeper. Edwin also did volunteer work at the Charlie Elliot Wild Life Center, drove the bus for Philadelphia Christian School's fieldtrips and handicap children participants during the Olympics. Edwin worked as a transit operator for MARTA for 32 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Dot Barkley; sons, Dennis Barkley of Conyers and John Scott Barkley of Dawson; daughters, Melonie Kay Inzetta and her husband, John, of East Point, Florida, and Paula Baker and her husband, Mark, of Conyers; five grandchildren, Justin, Kristie, Ashely, Emma, and Adah; great grandchildren, Nellie, Ally Rae, Conner, Naomi, and MacKenzie; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday April 23, at Newton Baptist Church, 720 Jack Neely Road, Covington, GA 30016, with Rev. Beau Carpenter and Rev. Rick Stucke officiating.
