Douglas M. Tweedell, known fondly as "Cookie," passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on April 7, 1942, he lived a life marked by devotion to family, honest work, and a vibrant musical spirit.
Cookie was a longtime resident of Conyers and worked as a residential painter. While he took pride in his work, it was clear that his greatest devotion was to his family. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with his loved ones, always keeping them at the center of his life.
Outside of work and family, Cookie had a deep passion for music. A talented blues musician and accomplished guitarist, he became a familiar presence on Atlanta's local music scene, performing frequently at Blind Willie's and other area venues.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Loyd and Elizabeth Tweedell; his brother, Floyd J. Tweedell; and his sister, Thelma Tweedell. He is survived by his sons, Timothy Tweedell (Jillian), Daryl Tweedell (fianceé, Monica); sisters, Shirley J. Powell, Frances E. Rodgers; brother, Donald L. Tweedell; grandchildren, Memphis, Evan, Devin; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at 11 o'clock, Saturday, August 1, at Stone Mountain City Cemetery, to remember and celebrate Cookie's life.
