Obituary

Earlene Abbott, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away August 9, 2014, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born May 22, 1925, in Lithonia, Georgia, to Walter E. and Ollie Parker Young, Earlene was one of the youngest of their many children. Earlene spent most of her life in and around Lithonia, where she married, raised her family and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia. She loved her husband and sons and with them created many fond memories that they will always treasure. Earlene certainly enjoyed having fun. She yelled loudly at baseball games and joined her sons and friends to play basketball, horseshoes and badminton. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed taking visitors on a garden tour pointing out whatever was blooming at the time. An Atlanta Braves fan, she watched games through both winning and losing seasons. Having learned to bake at an early age, she was known for her cakes, pies and other wonderful sweets that she readily shared with family, neighbors and friends. Earlene was happiest when her family was around. Her granddaughters were "hers" and she thought of them more as daughters than granddaughters. She was a dear aunt, who willingly gave advice to her many nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters (Lamar Young, Hewlett Young, Aletha Irvin, Azzalee Reagin, Kermit Young, C.T. Young, Sarah Fisher, Wayne Young, Jeanette Beale) and her son, Paul Abbott. She is survived by her husband of 69 years John Hubert Abbott, son John T. Abbott and his wife Gay, daughter-in-law Cindy Abbott, granddaughter Keely Woodall and her husband Woody, granddaughter Polly Thatcher and her husband David, great-grandchildren Pete Woodall, Kendall Woodall, Luke Thatcher and Lainey Thatcher, and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 3 o'clock, Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Lithonia, with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 2 o'clock, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Lithonia, P.O. Box 318, Lithonia GA 30058. 770-482-4411 henryfuneral.com
