David Wayne Hensley, age 54, of Covington, Georgia, passed away April 13, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 22, 1968 to Wayne and Rebecca Hensley; and grew up in Conyers, GA. He and his family were active members of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia. David was a Heritage High School Honor graduate, Class of 1986. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 209. When his sons were Boy Scouts, he became an active leader with Troop 447 where his oldest son, Ryan, also earned the rank of Eagle Scout. During his time with the Boy Scouts, David participated in two high adventure trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico; first as a Boy Scout with Troop 209 and second with Troop 447 as a leader guiding his sons. He loved his Harley, often riding with his wife, Laurah; watching trains with his son, Garrett; and playing trivia as "Team Wiz". David enjoyed traveling internationally with his wife and sons. He received a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and co-oped with the Drug Enforcement Agency; later he became a Police Officer with Peachtree City and worked on an undercover task force with Fayette County Sheriff's Office. David served his country in the United States Army and received an Associate's degree in Military Intelligence. He was employed with Delta Airlines as a System Engineer at the time of his death. David is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Laurah Allen Hensley of Covington, GA; sons, Ryan Garner Hensley of Conyers, GA and Garrett Allen Hensley of Covington, GA; mother, Rebecca Reece Hensley of Conyers, GA; brother, Markham Reece Hensley and his wife, Ingrid, of Greenwood, Indiana; nephew, Joshua DeWitt Hensley of Greenwood, Indiana; mother-in-law, Winnie Pair Allen of Conyers, GA; brother-in-law, Phillip Eugene Allen and his wife, Mandy, of Marietta, GA; numerous aunts and cousins. David was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Garner Hensley; father-in-law, Eugene Milton Allen; and brother-in-law, Timothy Joseph Allen. A memorial service will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, April 29 at the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, with Dr. Jim Martin and Rev. Robert Lindsay officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 prior to the service. The Inurnment Service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at a later date.
