Obituary

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Carl Allen Wade, Sr. age 84, of Snellville, died November 13, 2020. In 1978, he retired from the Coast Guard after over 23 years of service and then went to work for Lennox Industries as Product Engineer, where he retired after 20 years of dedicated service to a giant in the heating and air business. After retirement from the Coast Guard, Allen, Nancy and the children, moved to Southeast Gwinnett County near the Rosebud Community, on a beautiful 25 acres of land, bordered on one side by Haynes Creek. Allen, his sons, brothers, and other friends and relatives began building a new home under a grove of mature oak trees. After about two years, the house was complete with a fireplace, wood burning furnace in the basement and solar panels on the roof to heat the well water. The only thing he didn't do himself was the concrete basement floor and foundation walls. Allen loved the water and loved to fish. He and his wife owned a lake house for about 22 years and often took grandchildren with them and taught the kids how to drive the pontoon. When his granddaughter, Caty was in Dubai as a machine gunner on a small boat, another boat coxswain was needed. The officer in charge asked if anyone had experience driving a boat. Caty raised her hand and said her grandfather taught her how to drive a pontoon. She was made a boat coxswain. Allen also opened his boat house to host a fishing tournament that was sponsored by the company where his son, Terry, worked and also made the lake house available for Terry's clients, and many of Allen's friends. He was, indeed, a very generous man. After 17 years of sea duty, Allen was made Chief Petty Officer. The initiation for this was being thrown overboard into the sea. Since he could not swim, the men made sure he had on his life jacket. However, he was a Chief Petty Officer for only one day. The next day he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Manciel and Connie Wade and brothers, Harrell, Clark, Dell, and Danny Wade; Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Baker Wade; sons and daughters-in-law, Al and Laura Wade of Maquoketa, Iowa, Terry and Angie Wade of Loganville, Joe and Teresa Wade of Greer, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Brian Hurd of Morrison, CO; ten grandchildren, Caty, Pam, Austin, Nicholas, Lauren, Jennifer, Jason, Caleb, Jessica, and Nate; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Wade and his wife, Linda, of Cobb County; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Allen's life will be held 12:30 o'clock, Friday, November 20, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home.
