Obituary

Charles Reginald Kelley, a truly great man, was born on February 19, 1938, in Lithonia, Georgia to the late Dorothy Mabel Reagin Kelley and Tyrus Raymond Kelley. Charles lived in Lithonia for over 80 years before moving to Rockdale County in 2018. Charles met the love of his life, Martha Gail Corley Kelley, and they were married for 63 wonderful years. He held a law degree from Woodrow Wilson Law School and spent his career in the banking and mortgage business and was well known for his ability to connect people and manage key relationships in the mortgage industry at McCalla Raymer in Atlanta, before he retired in 2016. His impressive and long career included awards and recognition from several Mortgage Bankers Associations and was often a prominent speaker at these association conferences, where he was known as Charlie Kelley. Though his professional achievements were many, Charles would want to be known for devoting his life to his true focus as a loving husband, a caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His family adored him for selflessly lending his strength, humor or compassion when each was needed, and giving his infinite wisdom to everyone around him. He had several great friendships that lasted his lifetime, including that with his sister, June Kelley Anthony, which brought him enduring happiness. Charles will be known for the way he treated people with immeasurable kindness and respect. By nature, he put people at ease and served the needs of others especially through his life of messages for Christ. His life-long service for his Lord was continuous and meaningful. For so many years he led a Sunday School class and was a deacon at Lithonia First Baptist Church. Charles took his last breath on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, his absence will be deeply felt by many, but his remarkable presence will live eternally. In an accomplished and wonderful life, it is a testament to who he was that his greatest achievements will not be his material successes but rather the quality of his character, the respect of his peers and family, his charm and admiration of his loved ones. Charles was preceded in passing by his mother and father, his mother-in-law Minnie Rebecca Corley, his father-in-law Robert Corley, his sister-in-law Jane Reese, his brothers-in-law Bill Anthony, James Corley, Gary Reese, and many friends and relatives. Charles' spirit lives on in his wife, Gail Corley Kelley, sister, June Kelley Anthony (he called her Bug) of Stockbridge, his half-brother Jesse Mercer Kelley, of High Springs, Florida, his half-sister Virginia Kelley Hessey of High Springs, Florida, his daughter and son-in-law Alida and Tommy Baker of Cedartown, Georgia, his son and daughter-in-law Chip and Lorraine Kelley, of Stockbridge, Georgia, and his daughter, Kristi Kelley, of Stockbridge, Georgia. Charles loved to talk about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Kelley Baker Coxaj of Rome, Georgia, Amy Baker of Cedartown, Georgia, Sarah Baker Carter of Cedartown, Georgia, Jesse Baker (Brandi) of Cedartown, Georgia, Rebecca Baker Christful (Chris) of Sevierville, Tennessee, Ty Kelley (Ashley) of Buford, Georgia, Nathan Kelley (Brittany) of Loganville, Georgia, and Phillip Kelley (Eryn) of Acworth, Georgia. His great grandchildren: Justin Baker, Kayla Baggett, Emily Angelillo, Abigail Carter, Sydnie Baker, Lexie Russell, Maddy Baker, Addison Baker, Joseph Baker, Tate Kelley, Aiden Kelley, and Adeline Kelley. The interment will follow at Union United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stockbridge. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
