Sargent Major Charles L. Clarke U.S. Army (Ret), age 87, of Lithonia, died May 27, 2018. A native of Greenwood County, South Carolina, Mr. Clarke and his family moved to DeKalb County in the 1940's, where he attended Boys High in Atlanta and was a graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School, class of 1947. He proudly served his county in the U. S. Army in the late 1940's and later transferred his qualifications as an Electronics Inspector to the Georgia National Guard. After a career of over 29 years, he retired with the rank of Sargent Major. Mr. Clarke was a long-time member of E. A. Minor Lodge No. 603 F&AM, where he rose through the chairs to become Worshipful Master. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Oliver Clarke and his brother, Ben Clarke. Mr. Clarke is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Orville Green of New Windsor, Maryland; sister, Sarah Foster of Auburn, Georgia; loving grandson, Clark Green of New Windsor, Maryland. A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, June 1, at Resthaven Garden of Memories, with Masonic Rites and full military honors. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 o'clock, Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Children's Home, P O Box 4183, Macon GA 31208.
