Carol Farmer Simpson, age 64, of Conyers, Georgia, died June 3, 2024. She was born in Lithonia, Georgia, on August 7, 1959, to the late Howard Farmer and Edith Ragsdale Farmer Wilson. The only girl among four protective older brothers, she shared a close bond with her mother. Carol was highly respected in her career as a Deputy Tax Commissioner for the Rockdale County Tax Commissioner's Office, where she retired after more than 25 years of dedicated service. She was the "glue" that held her workplace together, coworkers often seeking her advice even after retirement.
Known for her southern, home-cooked meals, her signature dishes of cornbread, sweet potato soufflé, and her famous mac 'n' cheese, became family favorites. Her role as "Nanny" to her granddaughter, Kaitlyn, brought immense joy to her life. Their shared Saturdays filled with visits to local parks, trips to the Dairy Queen, and simple moments of togetherness, are cherished memories. Perhaps most notable, however, was her love for homeless, suffering animals, especially kitty cats. Throughout the years, she provided a loving home to countless strays, underlining her compassionate nature. Despite recent years of failing health, Carol remained committed to caring for others, be it her cats or her family. She looked forward to family vacations in St. Augustine and in recent years, enjoyed traveling to the mountains of Blue Ridge. Carol was also an avid reader.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, David Simpson; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa & Michael Dougherty; son, Casey Simpson; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Dougherty; brothers and sister-in-law, David Farmer, Allen & Carolyn Farmer, Kim & Wanda Farmer, Terry Farmer; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
