Carl L. "Buck" Merritt, age 89, of Lithonia died October 27, 2020. Born in Conyers to William Henry and Estelle Merritt, he was a graduate of Lithonia High School, class of 1950. Buck served his country honorably in the U. S. Air Force and was retired from Kraft Foods after over 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yardwork, smoking cigars, and umpiring for the Dixie Youth and Highschool baseball. Buck was preceded in death by parents; brother, Clyde Merritt; sisters, Marie Sheppard, Elizabeth Smith and Hazel Adams. Surviving are his life companion of over 30 years, Garmie Tyner; son Jeff Merritt and his wife, Brenda, of Lithonia; daughters, Debbie Strickland of Covington and Pam McCoy of Lithonia; his children's mother, Janet Merritt; grandchildren, Kelly, Ginger, Terry, Amanda, Renae, and Morgan; great grandchildren, Alicia, Abigail, Jasper, Gabi, Kevin, Malachi, Skylar, Ryan, and Barrett; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, October 30, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Mr. Steve Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Hillandale Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends 4 to 6pm Thursday afternoon and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
