Obituary

Bobby Ray Busby, 92, of Sunrise Senior Living at Webb Gin in Snellville and formerly of Lithonia and Rockdale County, died January 31, 2022. Born to Cleova and Andrew Dillard Busby in Grove Oak, Alabama, on December 19, 1929, Bobby was a 1949 graduate of Etowah High School and member of the National Beta Club. He played halfback on the football team, winning the State Championship. He also enjoyed and excelled in mechanical shop class. At the same time, he did very well under the tutelage of his father in their body shop at home. That apprenticeship would serve Bobby successfully in his future vocation. He joined the US Navy, but a short while later, developed a debilitating medical condition which shortened his military time. However, his love and patriotism never waivered. He always flew the United States flag at his home and businesses. After time in the Navy, he moved to Atlanta, married and began employment at Jenkins Cycle and Mower Co. in Decatur, owned by his father-in-law. Within a few years, Bobby bought the company and followed his dream of running his own business. He quickly became a bright star with several manufacturers of lawn equipment and bicycles. For many decades, Bob made Jenkins the top retail store in the southeast for Snapper, Toro, Echo, Lawn Boy and Schwinn bicycles. Bob Busby immensely loved his family and is preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Ruttenbur (Kevin). He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Marilyn Freeman Busby; daughters, Brandy Bryant and Sheila Ridgeway (Mike); grandchildren, Kelly Wilson, Jaime Egan, Jeff Egan, John Egan, Eric Ruttenbur, Ryan Ridgeway and David Ridgeway; great grandchildren, Gavin Egan, Caden Egan, George Duncan and Korbin Egan; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Sunrise for their loving care of Bobby and Marilyn. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, February 5, 2022, in the Chapel of Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia. Rev. Brian Boyles will officiate with Mr. Joe Stott giving the eulogy. The interment service will be held 2:30, Monday, February 14 at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 pm prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to Wreaths Across America Fund at Georgia National by mailing a check to: GNC Advisory Council, PO Box 5476, Canton GA 30114.
